The Lake Where Souls Learned To Shine
By Nicole Escarcena
By Nicole Escarcena
Many years ago, in a forgotten lake,
there were many fish swimming awake,
each one pleading to be found,
to feel love circling all around.
Yellow was frightened, afraid to be alone,
Green kept smiling, though his joy was not his own.
Blue stood in silence, surprised and shy,
for someone had come passing by.
He thought he’d never be loved this way,
not in this lake, nor any day.
Then came Nicole, a girl so bright,
her heart was glowing, pure with light.
She loved the fish that danced with glee,
for in each one she could see
a shining spark, a mystery free.
She reached for Blue so tenderly,
though they said he was “different,” quietly.
Yet in her eyes so innocent,
she found a glow magnificent.
She understood that love is brave,
a strength the fearful hearts still crave.
It blooms from souls that dare to try,
even through tears or silent sighs.
But Nicole didn’t mind at all,
she never listened to what they'd call.
She simply dreamed, she simply cared,
she loved the fish the world had spared.
She loved them truly, endlessly,
more than anyone could ever see.
Each one shone in their own way,
with talents bright as morning day.
Yellow was clever, wise and keen,
solving riddles calm and serene.
Green recited poems with art,
speaking feelings from his heart.
Blue was a painter, calm and kind,
painting sunsets in his mind,
each one a song of love defined.
They were not different, nor the same,
each had their light, their spark, their flame.
Unique in dreams, in how they’d try,
they reached their goals, they touched the sky.
So here’s the lesson, soft and clear,
you are not less, don’t hide in fear.
Your gift, your glow, your gentle art,
makes you shine, a world apart.
You too are the shining fish,
as radiant as the starfish.
